PERFECT YOUR POUR OVER

There are an innumerate amount of ways to create a pour-over, but the concept and theory are the same: a fresh-made cup of your favorite White Rhino beans. In this section, we will give you an overview and outline for brewing your coffee using a pour-over method. The pour-over style gives you much more control over a machine-brew including getting it to taste the way you want, and creating less waste.

Step One

Water

Heat your water, so that it is up to temperature when you are ready to brew. We recommend using filtered, and freshly heated water, at a temperature of 200-208F. If you have a darker coffee, or one that is older, use a lower temperature. If you have a lighter and more freshly roasted coffee, use a higher temperature.

Step Two

Coffee

Grind and weigh out your coffee to your desired preference and pour-over method.

Step Three

Brew

Once you have heated your water, and added your coffee grounds to your preferred device, you are ready to brew!

While you can play around with how much water you add in at one time, we recommend at least doing a Bloom for your grounds. This bloom allows the coffee to degas, and water to saturate the grounds before adding in the rest. Add 3 times the coffee weight with your hot water and allow to rest for 30 seconds.

After the bloom, add in the water to your desired ratio and in as many pulses as you prefer. If you are using an aeropress, one pulse will be sufficient, but if you have a flat-bottom dripper, it is wise to use a few pulses and different intervals.

The total time for the brew will depend on your device, but a good rule of thumb is the finer the grind, the less time to dine. If you have a coarser grind (say for French Press), we recommend letting the grounds and water sit for longer. The total time for any device is usually between 1 minute and 4 minutes.
